Joe started ditching school and stealing the “Goosebumps” books
when he was 12 years old. He said he did it because he knew he
could get away with it. He’s into anime and manga books now.
Joe and Shaggy are “like brothers,” meeting each other
at the parole office and sharing a tent on the streets in Anaheim,
California. He said the cops treat homeless parolees differently
depending on what city you are in.
At Orange County Jail, somehow none of the gangs had had a
chance to look at his paperwork – the normal way that they figure
out who should be in their gang. He therefore slipped through the
cracks and didn’t have to join one.
He got his GED (high school diploma) in prison, and learned how
to play guitar.
